WITNESSING WHILE YOU BUY GROCERIES2/27/2018 Making disciples can happen anywhere, and it should! So how about when you're at the grocery store? What opportunities lie behind the pasta aisle, under the frozen pizzas or beside the pig's feet? Check out these quick tips:
As you shop, look for others buying the same unique things that you do. There are plenty of common things we all purchase, but some not so much. If you are grabbing your special container of pickled eggs or pig's feet and notice someone else getting one too, strike up a conversation. You guys already have something in common. Remember that people (if they aren't otherwise preoccupied) love to talk about themselves and they love to feel like the expert. If you notice someone getting a grocery item that you know little about or that you would like to know more about, ask them about it. Just be careful to read their body language and tone of voice to know if they are ok with talking. Some simple conversation ideas to keep things going: Should I buy organic? Is (insert food her) gluten free? Does this store have the best prices? Do you normally shop here? Have you compared these prices to (insert other store name here)? Where do you keep this and does it need to be refrigerated? Are many people allergic to (insert food here)? Remember that conversations with commonality lead to connection. This connection is the start of a relationship that can lead to meaningful discipleship. So what about you? Do you have any suggestions for witnessing at the grocery store?
